The Haunted Cartridge

September 7th

A user named Jadusable makes a post about his experience with a haunted Majora’s Mask cartridge on /x/. Along with the summary, he posts a video called “day four.wmv.”

September 8th

Jadusable makes his second post on /x/, this time with a second video, “BEN.wmv.”

September 10th

Jadusable makes his third post on /x/, this time with a third video, “DROWNED.wmv.”

September 12th

Jadusable’s roommate posts on his behalf on /x/, presenting Jadusable’s final video, “jadusable.wmv.”

September 15th

Jadusable’s notes, “TheTruth.rtf,” are uploaded and posted to /x/.  These notes clarify that Jadusable had no roommate and that each summary from before had been tampered with by BEN.  The document implies that BEN has escaped due to readers having downloaded it. Jadusable disappears and is not seen again.

"free.wmv" is uploaded to Jadusable's channel.

The Moon Children

September 17th

Ciphers posted on Jadusable’s channel lead to the discovery of youshouldnthavedonethat.net, the home website for a cult called the Moon Children.

Theories on the site suggest the cult’s goal is to bring about the apocalypse. There are five main active members: Ifrit, Nekko, Duskworld23, Insidiae, and DROWNED. All are moderators except DROWNED, who is the administrator. Several other members are named elsewhere, particularly Rosa and Alex, who share names with characters featured in videos on Jadusable’s channel.

There is one locked page, called The Truth. It is password protected.

A countdown set to end the next day is found on the site.

September 18th

Ifrit, a member of the Moon Children, reaches out and begins to answer questions. Among them, he states that Ben was his friend, that his sister is Rosa, and his email address revealed his real name: Matt.

After hearing a knock on his door, Ifrit disappears.

fj6rt,” a video of the Song of Time, is posted as a response to free.wmv.  This reveals that the site is on a three-day cycle and resets it. The site goes down.

September 19th

The site comes back up, now in an earlier state than when it was found. Ifrit and DROWNED are no longer seen. The Truth is now unlocked, but its contents are gone.

Players discover the ability to play songs from Majora’s Mask in order to affect the website:

  • Inverted Song of Time - confirmed ability to play songs

  • New Wave Bossa Nova - caused Rosa to contact us via Ifrit’s email. Only a few people spoke to her, one of which received the login to The Truth.

  • Song of Healing - caused Kelbris, a prophetic cult member only mentioned in passing, to appear and presumably kill Rosa

  • Oath to Order - caused Alex’s death as seen in “...”

September 20th

More actions are taken in-game:

  • Song of Time - intended to stop Kelbris from killing Rosa, failed to do so; it reset the cycle again

  • Using a Fairy - revived Alex after his death shown in …

  • Sonata of Awakening - intentions unknown; caused Alex’s disappearance

huntyoudown.wmv” is posted to Jadusable’s channel. Shortly afterward, the Moon Children website was converted into an archive of events so far.

February 17th

A countdown leading to “Another Step” appeared on the site, set to end at 7:00pm. At that time, the site went down

Jadusable’s channel posted a cipher leading to a new forum: Within Hubris

The forum’s administrator, Guide, welcomes us:
“Here, all of us walk the fine line between absolution and conviction.
This is our last safe haven, our last bastion of defense. And yet it houses our greatest minds, and our strongest warriors.”

Two forum groups appeared for about 20 seconds before disappearing:

  • "HELP ME,"

  • "MY EYES",

The following users were discovered in a member group called “Tenor":
Jadusable, Hubris, Ryukaki, Alex, Nekko, Duskworld23, Drowned, BEN, Rosa, Insidiae, Tyler, Kelbris, and Guide.

February 18th

A new permanent forum group called Wayward Horizon was added. It contained one subforum called ???, which was password protected.

February 18th

The Location section of Rosa’s profile changed to include a binary message that decodes to “bastionof,” leading to the discovery of the password needed to access Wayward Horizon: bastionofdefense
Inside of Wayward Horizon, posts from Nekko, Duskworld23, Kelbris, and an unknown user are found. It appears that Wayward Horizon is where they are being kept.

February 26th

Several members of Within Hubris receive a letter by mail. It contains a newspaper clipping and a message presumably from BEN.
The following message was posted on Jadusable’s YouTube channel: “Hubris Reveal' trailer debuts on Jadusable's Youtube channel on Sunday, February 27th at 6pm EST.”
A timer titled, “They have to warn you” was added to Within Hubris, counting down to February 27 at 5pm, an hour before the time mentioned in the post.

  • what are you doing?

  • STOP THIS

  • /i

March 26th

Gateway.wmv” was uploaded to Jadusable’s channel. It mirrors the events of BEN.wmv’s Termina Field sequence, ending at Link using the Ocarina. It appears we have the ability to play songs again.

The video’s spectrogram contains a message: “what happened in 2012?”

March 28th

The clues from gateway.wmv led players to a new website: methodsofrevolution.com. Formerly a promotional site for an independent movie, it now contained imagery from the past few videos and several text documents containing chat logs from an unknown group.
A poll containing several Majora’s Mask songs was discovered. This appeared to be our outlet for deciding what songs to play.

The songs listed were: Song of Time, Song of Healing, Sonata of Awakening, Inverted Song of Time, Song of Double Time, Oath to Order, and Other. At the poll’s end, Sonata of Awakening won.

A new document, TheRealTruth.rtf, is found on methodsofrevolution.com. It is a new version of TheTruth.rtf containing all of Jadusable’s video summaries as well as a new entry written by BEN. Most instances of Ben in the document have been changed to BEN.

THE FATHER.wmv, the final video recorded by Jadusable, officially confirms his death.
methodsofrevolution.com came back up. It now contained a new poll: AWAKEN THE SECOND PLAYER? The choices were YES and NO. YES won.
Several audio files found on the site contained scattered phrases hidden in their spectrograms. Soon afterward, a new password protected page was discovered. The password was not found in time, and the site closed soon afterward.

April 19th

baker.txt” was uploaded to Jadusable’s channel. Taking place early on in the societal collapse, this video contains several important details:

  • A disease called H.E.R.O.E.S. is affecting hundreds of thousands of people in the United States

  • The government is developing a dangerous solution

  • methodsofrevolution.com’s lock screen updated to include text that directly continues from where baker.txt left off.
